Leatherman’s latest multi-tool “Skeletool” may have a goofy name, but its features are anything but. The Skeletool’s frame is built from stainless steel but covered in a special tungsten “DLC Coating” that makes it extra durable; the punched out holes in the chassis keep it lighter than any similarly-equipped Leatherman from the past. (You can even upgrade to the “Skeletool CX” with carbon fiber handles to shave off a few more grams.)
Besides the famous needlenose pliers with handy wire cutters, the Skeletool includes the now-standard Universal Bit Driver—the better to use the multi-tool as a screw- or hex-driver—as well as a combination straight/serrated blade. (Those in need of saw blades should look to Leatherman’s older but still useful multi-tool lines, like the Wave.)
The best feature, though, may be the combination carabiner/bottle opener. No more worrying about whether or not you forgot to put your multi-tool back in its belt sheath—just clip it on the nearest belt loop. (Preferably one of your own.)
The Skeletool retails for 72 bucks; the Skeletool CX for $96.
