Robot suit: the gift of the future

Robot SuitWhile this is definitely not something you’ll be buying this Holiday season, this robot suit developed by the Kanagawa Institute of Technology of Japan is likely to make you wonder about the possibilities that robotic technology holds for you and your loved ones in the future.

The suit is essentially an exoskeleton that enables the wearer to lift weights more easily. It’s intended to be worn by caregivers who must lift the elderly or the sick from their beds on a regular basis. With the suit on, it’s possible to lift a person as heavy as 100 kilos as if carrying only half that weight.

Currently made to order and targeted at nursing homes and hospitals, the Kanagawa Institute of Technology hopes that it will be able to develop a commercial version for ordinary homes within the next few years.
