If you have to ask why anyone would want a high-powered laser, then you and I are very different people. You can skip this article. For all the rest that appreciate the sheer joy that a ridiculously expensive and marginally dangerous handheld laser can bring you, then let me introduce you to the Photonic Disruptor from Wicked Lasers. Those in the know will recognize the company as the manufacturers if some of the most powerful green lasers in the market, and the Photonic Disruptor in an interesting new addition to their lineup.
Meant mainly for law enforcement agencies, it features a variable focal length so that the laser beam can be spread out, from a narrowly focused beam, into a wider cone-shaped beam. This can then be more easily shined in someone’s eyes, causing temporary blindness. Since the laser is so powerful, incoming threats can be stopped and incapacitated from further away than a conventional floodlight might.
And of course, even though it is meant for law enforcement agencies… you can purchase one yourself for about $600. It goes without saying that shining this into anyone’s eyes is against the law, and that pricetag will merely earn you the right to play with an expensive toy (weapon?) and do none of the things for which is was designed. But for those of you who’ve ever owned one, they’ll gladly tell you that this isn’t really a problem.
