Figure Prints: Real statues of your World of Warcraft avatar

Memorializing your avatar from a videogame may seem ridiculous to those that have never wasted days of their life in a massively multiplayer videogame, but trust me on this one: most of the rewards gleaned from playing these games are far less tangible than a tiny statue. “Figure Prints” uses a rapid prototyping machine to print out character models from World of Warcraft, hand paints them, and delivers them to your door…eventually.

The turnaround time for a Figure Print is about 60 days at the moment. And that’s if you end up getting selected to have your Figure Print made by inputing your order into a lottery. Figure Prints says the limited availability and slow turnaround time is due to high demand and high craftsmanship. I don’t doubt them on either point, but clearly there’s a market here for someone to buy another rapid prototyping machine and print out plastic figurines. So get on it, budding entrepreneur, before 3D printers become commonplace in the home. (You’ve got probably another decade at best.)

A figure print, if you’re selected, costs a hundred bucks plus twenty for shipping. That’s expensive, but considering the setup work necessary to ensure your character’s sword won’t snap off, plus the custom painting, makes it almost a bargain.
