While there’s no doubt Apple sold an insane amount of iPods this holiday season, I’m hoping consumers will be able to see past some of the hype and notice another very capable digital player: Microsoft’s new Zune. It comes in 4, 8 and 80GB versions, all of which play music, pictures, and videos; display images; and receive FM radio. The most notable feature however, is WiFi. With this, you can share your songs wirelessly with other Zune owners (with some restrictions, of course) and can even sync with your PC without having to plug anything in (new in this version).
The interface is pretty, and makes for pleasurable browsing of all your digital content. And much like the iPod, the Zune has its own marketplace where you can purchase new content. The device costs $150, $200 and $250 with the smallest capacity players obviously being cheaper.
